McAfee continually strives to improve our local and global communities through philanthropy and volunteering. At the core of our community focus is McAfee Cares, an employee-driven program that enlists the power and enthusiasm of the global McAfee workforce to make a difference in communities around the world where McAfee does business and where employees live and work. McAfee Cares combines corporate donations, matching gifts, product and service contributions, and employee volunteer efforts into a single program. With the support of employees around the world, including active involvement from our executive leadership team, McAfee Cares makes targeted donations of time and money to fight cybercrime, aid education and healthcare, and promote environmental initiatives.
McAfee Cares reaches out to the global community through the following corporate and employee-led efforts.
Through the McAfee Endowment Fund, we provide financial grants to nonprofit organizations around the world. McAfee Endowment grants to nonprofit organizations primarily focus on advancing the state of cybersecurity and education worldwide. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation manages McAfee’s grants programs.
The McAfee Endowment has made grants to a variety of organizations around the world, including the American Red Cross, Council of Europe, Common Sense Media, National District Attorney’s Association, National Cyber Security Alliance, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Teach for America, and The Prince’s Trust.
McAfee strives to increase the impact of employee charitable contributions by matching all full- and part-time North American employee donations to qualified organizations, up to $1,000 annually per employee. A qualified recipient must be a designated 501(c)(3) organization; a government agency, such as a public school or county hospital; or an accredited educational institution.
Gifts to individuals or donations for political or religious purposes are not eligible for matching funds.
McAfee regularly contributes to community groups with in-kind donations. Through our collection drives, employees donate canned goods, clothing, toys, books, cell phones, school supplies, and more, to organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Toys for Tots, and Family Giving Tree. The McAfee Plano, TX office recently launched the "Helping Hands Program," a central donation site that accepts cell phones, eyeglasses, and toiletries for contribution to local organizations.
On a corporate level, McAfee also donates products to community recipients, including more than $1 million in McAfee intrusion prevention technology to the Rochester Institute of Technology, and security products to the American Red Cross to protect networks at relief centers set up after Hurricane Katrina.
Employee Volunteering & Fundraising
We are proud of our employees and the hours they commit to volunteering in their communities. McAfee employees tutor children, clean up the environment, support the arts, raise funds to fight diseases, and much more. McAfee organizes team volunteer projects that support local charities. Over the past years, employees planted gardens to benefit a homeless shelter (Cork, Ireland), visited homes and programs for children (Singapore and India), participated in a city-wide cleanup day (Plano, TX), refurbished houses for the financially needy (Plano, TX; Santa Clara, CA), sorted and wrapped holiday toys and gifts for needy children (Santa Clara, CA), and taught school kids about the dangers of cybercrime (Beaverton, OR; St. Paul, MN; Santa Clara, CA; Plano, TX).
McAfee employees are also generous providers of financial donations, raising money for the Humane Society, breast cancer and juvenile diabetes research, and other children’s charities. In 2009, one-day events at McAfee’s Santa Clara, CA; Plano, TX; and Canadian offices raised more than $50,000 for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
