Cloud computing continues to expand to new markets and industries, as more enterprises realize the benefits each specific cloud service can provide. However, some cloud-based applications have caught on quicker than others.
According to a recent survey by a provider of data centers and managed services solutions, websites, email and calendar, backup recovery and testing and development are currently the most used cloud applications. Meanwhile, customer relationship management, document management and collaboration applications should see the most growth during the next few years.
The report said website applications are the most used cloud-based service, as 56 percent of respondents are currently using the technology and only 12 percent have no plans to implement it. Email and calendar applications are the second most used software in the cloud, with 46 percent of respondents using those services and 26 percent planning to add them.
Additionally, backup recovery applications may have the most room for growth, as 39 percent of those surveyed are interested in implementing a cloud-based backup system and 38 percent have already done so.
According to a recent eWeek report, cloud backup is often one of the first services cloud adopters use, as remote backup provides businesses with a low-cost, reliable data backup and recovery solution.
