McAfee FOCUS 08 Security Conference Brings Together Partners and Customers to Talk About the Latest Security Issues
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 2008--McAfee Inc. (NYSE:MFE) today announced that its first ever user conference, FOCUS 08 held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was a huge success with partners and customers. FOCUS 08 was attended by more than 1,200 people from 47 countries and included over 70 informative breakout sessions, keynotes from prominent industry leaders, partner presentations, product demos on network security, data protection, risk and compliance, and networking events.
Day one of FOCUS was kicked off by Dave DeWalt, president and CEO of McAfee, and Christopher Bolin, McAfee's CTO, who discussed McAfee's strategy, including the way cloud computing technologies will benefit McAfee customers at the endpoint, in the network, and on the road. Attendees appreciated this in-person corporate update directly from the company's top officers.
"I am impressed with McAfee's vision of the future of information security, and I am confidant that with their technical and management expertise, and their carefully-chosen strategic partnerships, they will achieve it," said one conference attendee, Ross Johnson, director of Security and Contingency Planning for EPCOR Utilities Inc.
During the conference, McAfee unveiled its Initiative to Fight Cybercrime. The initiative is anchored by a multi-point plan that includes calls for action from law enforcement, academia, service providers, government, the security industry and society at large to deliver more effective investigations and prosecutions of cybercrime.
The second day of the conference included presentations from John Pescatore, vice president and research fellow, Gartner, Inc.; Gregory Bryant, vice president and general manager of the Digital Office Platform Division for Intel's Business Client Group; Raghu Raghuram, Vice President of Products and Solutions at VMware, Inc. and Marius Haas, senior vice president and worldwide general manager of the ProCurve Networking business at HP. The presenters discussed 'Major Changes in Security - Defending Yourself from Every Angle.' Attendees learned about current sophisticated malware, targeted threats, and multi-stage attacks, resulting in the need for security to be everywhere.
The conference concluded with former FBI special agent and security expert George Togliatti giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep a major Las Vegas resort and casino secure. Togliatti discussed which myths surrounding Las Vegas security are really true, and described the technology being implemented to secure a resort that's equal in size to a small town.
In conjunction with FOCUS 08 McAfee hosted its first Security Innovation Alliance (SIA) Developer Conference. The SIA program launched less than a year ago includes more than 30 partners. During the conference, SIA members talked about ways they are integrating with McAfee to offer their customers more secure solutions.
Additionally McAfee launched The Place at McAfee, a unique online networking community for customers. The Place offers a venue for customers to meet peers in other organizations to share strategies and best practices. Members also have easy access to tools and information which help them be more successful.
"At McAfee's FOCUS conference, I met other customers who use the same products as me, and discovered we had similar experiences," said Roger Norfolk, Systems Education Coordinator at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. "Now with The Place, I'm able to continue my dialogue with other McAfee customers. I am very pleased to join this new community."
