Shiloh Service Delivers Efficient, Effective Security to Clients

Shiloh Service Inc. provides managed IT services to more than 200 small businesses in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Shiloh prides itself on its white-glove service, offering small businesses the level of support typically found in IT departments of large companies. Their clients are heavily dependent on communication networks, but not large enough to have a full-time network administrator. “For a monthly fee, our clients have a fixed IT cost and don’t have to worry about unplanned IT expenses,” said George Halula, President, Shiloh Service.

A Small Business Serving Small Businesses
A critical element of Shiloh’s service is data and network security, which is part of each contract. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so every client must maintain antivirus, antispyware, and antispam protection,” Halula explained. “We’re obliged to keep their security software up-to-date and protecting effectively.”

Until recently, Shiloh Service was offering two separate software packages for antivirus and spyware protection—neither system was completely effective. The company would often find itself dealing with virus outbreaks affecting several clients at once. The situation strained Shiloh’s support representatives, who had to visit each client site to remove the viruses and rebuild the affected workstations.

“Since we are a small business ourselves, we needed to be able to provide security services as costeffectively as possible and with minimal impact on our staff even as our business continues to grow. We also wanted to cut down on our administrative costs by providing comprehensive capabilities from a single vendor,” Halula said. “But most importantly, we needed a solution that would be more effective in detecting threats, viruses, and spyware, and neutralizing them before they become a problem on our clients’ networks.”

Maximum Efficiency with Cloud-Based Solutions
Shiloh Service looked to cloud-based, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions from McAfee, designed to meet the needs of small businesses. With McAfee® SaaS Email Protection and Continuity and McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection Suite, Shiloh is now able to provide highly effective anti-malware and antispam services at minimal cost and with maximum efficiency for its staff. By offering comprehensive services from a single vendor, Shiloh has also been able to cut the time spent on licensing renewals in half.

“When we tell our clients we offer a McAfee-based solution, that’s all many of them need to know to feel that their networks and data are secure.”

Centralized Visibility for Proactive Security Management
For Shiloh Service, one of the most important features of the SaaS solutions is the web-based McAfee SecurityCenter console, which enables the company to monitor and manage all of its clients’ security coverage from a single, unified dashboard. At a glance, support technicians can view the status of every client’s license and security coverage, and trigger scans remotely from any location with Internet access. A key timesaver is the SaaS solution’s integration with McAfee’s vast and constantly updated knowledge base of global malware definitions. The Shiloh staff is able to view new definitions simply by accessing the McAfee SecurityCenter, and then push out updates instantly to every client workstation. Clients also have a login so that they may access the dashboard and view particulars for their own security environment, such as whether any threats have been detected and if so, the actions Shiloh has taken to remove the viruses. “The centralized dashboard is a powerful tool. It gives us the ability to proactively manage our clients’ security environments,” said Halula.

“With the McAfee SaaS solutions, we’re able to offer our clients the peace of mind that comes from the highest-possible levels of network security, in an easy and efficient manner. As a result, we can grow our business cost-effectively and take on new clients without having to increase our headcount in service personnel.”

Peace of Mind for Service Provider and Clients
“Most of our clients don’t have in-house technical expertise to manage their own networks and don’t really want to be concerned with the particulars of data security; that’s why they place their trust in us. They just want to know they’re protected, so they can spend their time running their own businesses,” said Halula. “When we tell our clients we offer a McAfee-based solution, that’s all many of them need to know to feel that their networks and data are secure.”

Although Shiloh Service is still in the process of migrating all of their clients to the McAfee SaaS system, the company has noticed a marked decrease in malware infections for those that have been upgraded. “The McAfee SaaS solutions are doing a great job of keeping malware from entering the environment.”

Driving a Growing Business
For Shiloh Service, McAfee plays a key role in helping their business thrive and grow.

“As a small business serving small businesses, our time is money—so any time savings go directly to our bottom line. With the McAfee SaaS solutions, we’re able to offer our clients the peace of mind that comes from the highest-possible levels of network security, in an effective and efficient manner,” Halula remarked. “As a result, we can grow our business cost-effectively and take on new clients without having to increase headcount of service personnel.”
