Enterprises are adopting cloud computing services at a rapid pace and seeking IT employees with related experience to help them realize the full potential and benefits of cloud technology.
According to a recent study by TEKsystems, a provider of IT staffing solutions, more than a third of IT managers expect hiring in their department to increase during the first three months of this year. However, respondents said cloud architects are among the most difficult positions to fill, as well as security specialists, business intelligence specialists and mobile application developers.
"IT leaders are hiring because businesses realize the vital role skilled IT professionals play in competitive success," said TEKsystems director Rachel Russell. "Many organizations are simultaneously implementing major IT projects to help achieve business objectives, including mobile applications, business intelligence, virtualization and security initiatives. As a result, the market for IT professionals with relevant skills is extremely tight."
Meanwhile, cloud architects and data management professionals are expected to receive significant salary raises that could exceed 10 percent this year. Overall, 44 percent of IT leaders predict their staffs will collect raises, the report said.
High demand for cloud architects is likely the result of enterprises expecting to invest in mobile applications, virtualization and business intelligence, as all three technologies are linked to increased cloud adoption. Many companies are deploying business intelligence software in the cloud, and numerous experts say mobile cloud computing is among the top IT trends in 2012.
According to a recent Bluewolf study, enterprise resource planning, business intelligence and customer relationship management software developers will be in high demand this year, and many of those applications will be deployed in the cloud.
