Swiff-Train Saves 4000 Man-Hours a Year Using McAfee to Block Spam
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 03, 2009 - McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE) today announced that Swiff-Train Company, a Texas-based, international wholesale floor covering distributor, is using McAfee® Email Gateway appliance (formerly IronMail) to attack its email security problem head-on.
Prior to the deployment of McAfee Email Gateway, Swiff-Train had been using a software-based solution that caught only about half of the spam directed at the company, resulting in clogged servers and wasted bandwidth. McAfee Email Gateway has solved that problem, delivering an average spam-blocking rate of more than 99 percent.
"Based on the spam blocked, we have saved over 4000 man hours annually by not having end users sifting through spam,” said Greg Altman, network administrator for Swiff-Train. “Those are quantifiable results, in addition to the unquantifiable savings such as lost productivity due to virus outbreaks."
McAfee attacks spam using a multi-layered strategy that starts with TrustedSource™, a multi-protocol, reputation-based technology that accurately assigns reputation scores to all Internet hosts and devices, domains, URLs and messages based on their behavior.
"TrustedSource is a big perk for us," added Altman. "Its reputation-based protection works very well in preventing even the most recent malicious content from getting through."
"TrustedSource, as the first line of defense against Web 2.0 threats carried by email, works like a credit agency assigning scores to determine the likelihood of any given email source as being malicious," said Ken Rutsky, vice president of network security product marketing for McAfee. "As a result, spyware, viruses and malware get blocked at the outer edge, before they get into the network. This saves organizations the money usually spent on malware cleanup and dramatically lowers bandwidth and archiving costs.”
McAfee Email Gateway helps to stop new and emerging Web 2.0 blended threats. "It’s ‘set it and forget it’,” added Altman. “Management for McAfee Email Gateway takes less than five minutes a week. McAfee Email Gateway has allowed us to virtually eliminate virus threats, save money on email storage, and increase productivity to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. Even in Texas, that's more than lunch money!"
The McAfee Email Gateway appliance provides total email protection, delivering integrated inbound protection from email-borne threats, outbound protection from data leakage and administrative empowerment for email administrators. The McAfee Email Gateway appliance, combines local information from the network with TrustedSource global intelligence, to provide the most complete protection against spam, inbound threats and malware.
