McAfee Mac Stinger

Mac Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses on Mac OS X. Currently Mac Stinger can detect and remove OSX/Flashfake variants. McAfee Labs plans to add coverage for more Mac OS X families in future versions of the tool.

Mac Stinger is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection on Mac OS X, but rather a tool to assist administrators and end users when dealing with an infected system.

How do you use Mac Stinger?
  1. Download the latest version of Mac Stinger

  2. When prompted, choose to save the file (MacStinger.zip) to a convenient location on your hard disk, such as your Desktop folder.

  3. When the download is complete, navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded Mac Stinger file, and extract the file MacStinger.zip.

  4. Double-click MacStinger.zip to launch the application.

  5. Type the admin password when prompted.



  6. Upon entering the password, Mac Stinger will start the scan on the entire hard disk drive.



  7. Once the infections are detected and cleaned, the “Your Mac is Clean” message appears.



  8. Click Details to get the scan status with the detected infection list summary.



    Note:At any point, pressing “command + Q” or clicking would quit the Mac Stinger Application.
