Product Features

Unparalleled, proactive threat protection
The McAfee anti-virus scan engine stops every type of virus and malicious code threat, including “traditional” viruses, email worms, Internet worms, DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, backdoor and remote access Trojans, and zombies. Using technology that drills down into compressed data, GroupShield is also able to find hidden threats buried in .zip and other compressed file types.

Proactive protection is delivered through advanced heuristics and generic detection, which allow GroupShield to protect—in advance—against new, unseen viruses and other threats.

Automatic content filtering
McAfee GroupShield provides administrators with tools to block files and messages likely to contain hostile code, based on subject-line keywords, attachment file names, file extensions, or a combination of criteria.

Centralized management and reporting
McAfee GroupShield integrates with ePolicy Orchestrator—one of the only truly scalable security policy management tools—for policy management, detailed graphical reporting, and software deployment. ePolicy Orchestrator is a centralized authority to enforce protection, providing a single console to manage both your McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller deployments.

Robust spam blocking
The optional add-on of McAfee SpamKiller delivers rules-based, industry-leading anti-spam detection that seamlessly integrates with McAfee GroupShield. Five levels of spam protection deliver up to 95% accuracy, with minimal false positives.

Outbreak response
Using rules defined by the administrator, Outbreak Manager searches for new attacks by looking for activities typical of virus outbreaks. When a virus outbreak is detected, Outbreak Manager can either email the administrator and wait for further instructions, or automatically execute pre-determined tasks to secure the email environment against possible infection, requiring no manual intervention.

In-memory scanning
GroupShield for Lotus Domino scans items in RAM without having to write them to disk, enabling it to perform lightning-fast scans, reduce the impact to users, and provide reliable, secure protection.

Incremental on-demand scanning
Once-only scanning reduces server load and increases performance. If a file has been found not to be virus-infected, it will not be scanned again unless it has been changed or a new virus definition update is received.

Logging and Alerting
McAfee GroupShield allows administrators to configure a wide variety of system alerts, each of which can be selectively enabled, filtered, and prioritized. The integrated Alert Manager™ includes sophisticated notification policies that alert multiple administrative functions; alerts can be sent via email, pager, Microsoft event logger, and network messages.

Always Up-to-Date
Protection from viruses is only as effective as the last update. McAfee GroupShield features AutoUpdate, which enables the latest Virus definition (DAT) files to be automatically downloaded via FTP or network file share. This automated server-side function ensures that you will always be up to date with the latest DAT files from McAfee.
