Networking Security Expert to Lead Operations Throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa Region
SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 05, 2010 - McAfee Inc. (NYSE:MFE), the world’s largest dedicated digital security company, today announced that it has appointed Gert-Jan Schenk as president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Schenk, age 43, reports to Michael DeCesare, executive vice president of worldwide sales for McAfee. Schenk started October 1, and is based out of the McAfee office in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Schenk joins McAfee from Juniper Networks where he served as senior vice president of EMEA. In this role, he managed close to 900 employees throughout EMEA and dramatically improved Juniper’s global profitability and growth. Over the last four years he has grown its business from $600 million to $1.2 billion in revenue.
“Gert-Jan is a strong leader with 20 years of global sales and marketing experience in security, hardware and networking,” said DeCesare. “He has strong operational skills and a proven track record of success in driving large sales organizations at large, global companies. These qualities will make him an excellent addition to our team.”
An industry veteran, Schenk joined Juniper Networks in 2002, where he was first responsible as the vice president of channels for EMEA for guiding Juniper Networks from a one tier to a two tier distribution model in EMEA in line with the company's increased focus upon the enterprise market and the expansion of its portfolio to include security, enterprise routing and application acceleration solutions.
Prior to Juniper, Schenk was vice president, channels, at Unisphere Networks (acquired by Juniper Networks in 2002). Earlier in his career, Schenk was director of channel sales, EMEA, at Redback Networks and regional sales director, Benelux and Central Europe for Madge Networks, among other positions.
“McAfee has a very strong product portfolio and an incredible network of partners and alliances across its business,” said Schenk. “The company has really reached a pivotal point in its history and I see a tremendous opportunity for growth and continued success. I’m excited to be a part of the leadership team and look forward to growing its EMEA business.”
David Quantrell, McAfee’s current president of EMEA, has decided to pursue other business opportunities. He will continue working with McAfee over the next several months to ensure a smooth transition to his successor.
