McAfee, Inc. Upgrades Award-Winning SiteAdvisor Technology

SiteAdvisor® Adds New Secure Search Feature that Allows Consumers to Search and Click with Confidence

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 11, 2008 – McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE) today announced an upgrade to its landmark McAfee® SiteAdvisor® Web security software, the free program that helps consumers know what is safe and what may be risky on the Web. McAfee’s SiteAdvisor technology with Secure Search provides three benefits: 1) it allows users to block and filter malicious Web sites from search results; 2) it provides a Secure Search Box for simplified, convenient security and 3) it integrates McAfee SECURETM trustmarks throughout the consumer Web experience. Together, these Secure Search features extend McAfee’s commitment to making it easier than ever for consumers to enjoy comprehensive Web security. The free upgrade is available immediately for new and existing users and can be downloaded at www.mcafee.com/siteadvisor.

More than ever, consumers need easy-to-use advice to help them stay safe when searching, surfing and shopping online. According to McAfee research, risky sites are served in search results almost four billion times every month across major U.S. search engines. These sites present numerous risks to consumers, including fraud, phishing scams and identity theft. And with e-commerce increasing (so-called Cyber Monday sales were up 13% this year), online identity theft and credit fraud are increasingly real possibilities for consumers.

Secure Search is centered on McAfee’s new Secure Search Box – a feature that allows consumers to easily block or filter out risky sites from their search results. Risky sites are indicated by a “Red” rating in McAfee SiteAdvisor software after each site has been tested for spyware, drive-by downloads, spammy e-mails, scam products, phishing or other malicious activity. Sites with minor security or nuisance issues merit a “Yellow” caution rating. Sites with no problems found are rated “Green.” Sites that carry the McAfee SECURE trustmark undergo intensive daily testing for more than 10,000 known hacker vulnerabilities to help consumers avoid identity theft when purchasing online. In addition, McAfee Secure sites must pass SiteAdvisor tests and earn a “Green” rating. Currently, more than 80,000 Web sites carry the McAfee SECURETM trustmark.

“Just like real world threats, virtual threats and risks are constantly changing and evolving,  sites that are safe today can be dangerous tomorrow,” said Tim Dowling, vice president of McAfee’sWeb Security Group. “It can be hard for consumers to tell the difference, but with this new functionality, they can weed out potentially bad sites entirely and click with confidence. The Secure Search Box further builds on McAfee’s Web security strategy and enhances the core goal of SiteAdvisor software: to make searching and shopping online safer and more secure.”

Consumers can add Secure Search to their Internet Explorer browsers as a standalone set of features or download it with the Yahoo! Toolbar, the Web’s first downloadable toolbar which helps users simplify their Web routines on and off Yahoo.com.  The customizable McAfee/Yahoo! Toolbar includes convenient tools, such as a Yahoo! Search box that predicts what users are searching for and offers them instant suggestions as they type, and one-click access to the sites users care about most, both on and off Yahoo!.  Secure Search for the Firefox browser will be available at a later date.
