Mission

To promote, develop, and encourage the use of minority, women-owned, and disabled veteran businesses (MWDVBEs) while maintaining best in class supply chain practices of obtaining goods and services.

 

Sourcing

McAfee membership in minority and women owned business development organizations:

  • Aids in developing diversity supply base and providing networking opportunities
  • Provides assistance with referrals and sourcing through access to database of certified suppliers

 

Current McAfee Corporate Member Organizations:

  • National Minority Supplier Development Council [NMSDC]
  • Women’s Business Enterprise National Council [WBENC]

 

Supplier Criteria

  • Certification with organizations such as NMSDC (National Minority Supplier Development Council), WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council), etc. Non-certified suppliers will be reviewed on a case by case basis (see Diversity Supplier Definitions below).
  • Provide appropriate value-added goods and services
  • Financial stability
  • Ability to grow
  • Total cost/price
  • References and proven track record
  • Meets Supplier Qualification criteria requirements

 

Diversity Supplier Definitions

Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) must be a currently functioning business which (1) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% independently owned, managed and controlled by the minority group members, (2) demonstrates the capability to perform a line of businesses, and (3) provides a commercially useful business function according to customs and practices of the industry. The controlling interest in a firm is represented to be minority shall be by one or more citizens of the United States of America who are:

  • African Americans include: Black persons (not of Hispanic origin) having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa.
  • Hispanics include: Persons whose origin is from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America, or Hispanic cultures or descents.
  • Asians/pacific Islanders include: Persons whose origin is from Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Samoa, Guam, U.S. Trust Territories of the Pacific, Northern Marianas, Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • Native Americans include: American Indians, Eskimos, Aleuts, and native Hawaiians, American/Alaskan Indians must be documented members of a Federally Recognized Tribal Entity.
  • The minority ownership and control shall be real and continuing and not created solely to take advantage of special or set aside programs aimed at minority business development.
  • The minority owner(s) shall enjoy the customary incidents of ownership and shall share in the risks and profits and shall have contributed capital, equipment and/or expertise to the business commensurate with his/her percentage of ownership.
  • The minority owner(s) shall possess the power to direct or cause the direction of the management and policies of the firm and shall possess the capability of making day-to-day operations by employees and business references of the business. Where licenses are required to perform the functional mission of the company, such licenses shall be held in the name and/or independent control of minorities.
  • All securities which constitute ownership of a corporation for purposes of establishing it as a minority business enterprise shall be held directly by the minority owner(s). No securities held in trust or by any guardian for a minority shall be considered held by minority persons in determining ownership and control of the corporation.
  • The contributions of capital or expertise by the minority by owner(s) to acquire their interests in the firms shall be real and substantial.

 

Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) is an individual, partnership, corporation or joint venture of any kind that is at least 51% women-owned, controlled, and operated. The business should be open for at least six months. The business owner must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien.

  • The contribution of capital and/or expertise by the woman business owner is real and substantial and in proportion to the interest owned.
  • The woman business owner must direct or cause the direction of management, policy, fiscal, and operational matters.
  • The woman business owner shall have the ability to perform in the area of specialty or expertise without reliance on either the finances or resources of a firm that is not owned by a woman

 

For a firm to be certified as a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE), it must submit a completed Small Business and/or Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Certification Application and meet the following legal requirements:

  • The law defines a disabled veteran as a United States military, naval or air service veteran with a service related disability of at least 10 percent.
  • It is a sole proprietorship or partnership at least 51 percent owned by one or more disabled veterans or, in the case of a publicly owned business, with at least 51 percent of its stock owned by one or more disabled veterans; a subsidiary which is wholly owned by a corporation in which at least 51 percent of the parent company’s voting stock is owned by one or more disabled veterans; or a joint venture in which at least 51 percent of the joint venture’s management, control and earnings are held by one or more disabled veterans.
  • One or more disabled veterans control the management and daily control of the daily business operations.
  • The disabled veteran(s) exercising management and control need not be the same disabled veteran(s) who own the firm.
  • It is a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation with its home office located in the United States and is not a branch or subsidiary of a foreign corporation, firm or business.
