On April 6, 2011, McAfee completed its acquisition of privately owned Sentrigo, a leading provider of database security, including vulnerability management, database activity monitoring, database audit, and virtual patching — which ensure databases are protected without impacting performance or availability. The acquisition enables McAfee to extend its database security portfolio and deliver comprehensive, industry-leading solutions to serve the rapidly growing database security market, estimated to reach more than $600 million by 2012.
Sentrigo is a member of the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance (SIA) partner program, and in 2010 McAfee entered into an OEM relationship with the company to offer Sentrigo database security products under the McAfee brand name. With this acquisition, McAfee also plans to fully integrate Sentrigo’s database security solutions into McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator software, enabling complete management from a single platform.

“The integration of Sentrigo with McAfee will provide customers with the highest level of security across their database environments and allow companies to rapidly deploy a database security strategy in a cost-effective manner. McAfee is continuing to broaden its security portfolio to now secure databases, as well as endpoints, networks, email, and web,” said Dave DeWalt, president of McAfee. In March 2011, McAfee also announced a complete database security platform which includes products across the McAfee portfolio.
The addition of Sentrigo’s database security solutions to the McAfee security portfolio comes at a critical time when regulatory pressure and the volume of database breaches are rapidly escalating. “The regular stream of public breach announcements is evidence that we must all do much more to protect mission-critical database environments, and Sentrigo has been working for more than four years to develop a suite of products to best secure these assets,” said Nathan Shuchami, CEO of Sentrigo. “As part of McAfee, Sentrigo will be in a position to deliver these best-of-breed solutions to address a much broader range of customer’s database security and compliance challenges.”
