Objectives

Strategy Development

Working closely with your team, we develop an effective deployment strategy.

• Outline your network protection goals
• Determine most effective sensor placement
• Match sensor port configuration to network configuration
• Discuss options to deal with asymmetric network routing
• Discuss options to handle failover networks

Setup and Configuration

• Determine sensor installation modes based on your requirements
• Install one IntruShield manager
• Install three IntruShield sensors
• Apply initial detection/prevention policies
• Set up administrative alerts

Training

Over a two-day session, your administrators learn to install, configure, tune, and manage your McAfee IntruShield solution.

• Schedule sensors' signature and software updates
• Create user roles and access privileges
• Back up and maintain the alert database
• Configure monitoring ports and virtual IDS
• Determine appropriate policies per interface and virtual IDS
• Clone and tune policies
• Manage and investigate alerts
• Understand how the security system generates events and recognizes
• Understand how events and packet logs are stored in the database
• Effectively use historical alerts view to identify specific, filtered data
• Use the report generator to deliver event and configuration-based reports
• Create user-defined reports
• Choose the best policy for specific network segments
• Tune the policy based on actual network traffic conditions
• Purge and tune events in the database using McAfee-provided scripts
