McAfee Inc. Secure Web Gateway Receives Network World's Clear Choice Award
New McAfee Secure Web Gateway Appliance Outperforms Fifteen other Vendors and is Recognized as the Leading Anti-Spyware Solution for the Enterprise by Network World
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE), the leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today announced that McAfee® Secure Web Gateway received Network World Magazine's Clear Choice Award by taking the top spot in a competitive anti-spyware review. McAfee Secure Web Gateway, which was recently announced Monday as part of McAfee's new secure content management (SCM) appliance offerings, was rated the top anti-spyware solution in this head-to-head comparative review, surpassing all other desktop and gateway anti-spyware solutions with its superior detection and prevention capabilities, instinctive installation and ease-of-use.
The Network World Clear Choice Test of top enterprise anti-spyware included 18 anti-spyware products from 16 vendors, and categorized the solutions based on their ability to protect at the gateway or desktop. Network World's review methodology evaluated vendor solutions based on real-world user scenarios and customer buying criteria, including successful spyware detection and prevention, effective reporting and alerting, intuitive installation and deployment and overall ease-of-use. According to the test results, McAfee Secure Web Gateway was determined to provide comprehensive anti-spyware protection at the gateway and received an exceptional score for spyware detection and prevention and intuitive installation.
"The McAfee Secure Web Gateway thwarted 90% of the spyware in our tests, has an intuitive user interface and was child's play to install," said Barry Nance, reviewer, Network World. "Secure Web Gateway gave us URL filtering, Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP) support and an easy-to-navigate user Interface. It also can send SNMP alerts to HP OpenView or other frameworks. Installation was as simple as connecting the box to a router and switch, powering it up and assigning an IP address."
Stopping spyware at the gateway is not enough with today's mobile workforce. McAfee recommends a layered approach that includes protection both at the gateway and the desktop, and provides two best-in-class solutions the SCM appliances and Anti-Spyware Enterprise with centralized management for the broadest gateway and desktop protection. In addition, McAfee combines highly accurate signature detection and Web Filtering capabilities in its gateway products to provide broad and highly accurate spyware protection.
"McAfee is pleased to receive strong validation from Network World that its new SCM appliance is a Clear Choice winner for keeping spyware from entering the corporate network," said Vimal Solanki, director of product marketing at McAfee, Inc. "McAfee, which believes in taking a multi-layered approach to protecting its customers from spyware and other malware, has designed the appliance with two levels of protection, as well as centralized management. Coupled with Antispyware Enterprise at the desktop, users enjoy industry's most comprehensive protection available for blocking these unwanted programs."
The McAfee Secure Content Management (SCM) appliances are best-in-class, high-performance platforms that deliver protection against spyware, inappropriate Web content, phishing, spam, known viruses, worms and Trojans. The comprehensive protection eliminates the need for multiple point products, lowers total cost of ownership, and because the solutions are appliance-based, they are easily installed and virtually maintenance free. In addition, the appliances can be centrally managed through McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO TM), for unified management of anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phishing and content filtering solutions from the desktop to the gateway.
