Market research firm Forrester expects the global market for cloud computing to expand to $241 billion by 2020 based on recent market research.
As popular forms of cloud computing, such as SaaS solutions, become more prevalent, companies that were once hesitant to develop SaaS will begin to do so. Conversely, customers, both enterprise and consumers, that considered the cloud too risky will eventually adopt it. Aside from the overall improvements in security, the benefits, such as faster deployment and fewer costs, will likely be too much for people to ignore.
According to the report, another positive related to cost is freedom from regular hardware upgrades. While the economy has recovered from its worst stages of the recession, companies still want to spend carefully. All that companies need to leverage SaaS is a relatively modern machine and an internet connection. Moreover, the availability of the solutions on the web allows companies to hire remote workers and encourage mobility.
A number of studies have pegged SaaS adoption at varying levels. Most recently, a report from InformationWeek Analytics found 60 percent of companies use at least one SaaS solution.
