CRN.com recently reported the growth and acceptance of SaaS within enterprise IT departments is having positive effects on organizations in several industries.
While small- and medium-sized businesses stand to benefit the most, value-added resellers and other organizations have realized SaaS will allow them to target more companies. As major software organizations develop more SaaS solutions, VARs can expand their sales focus due to flexible pricing options offered by SaaS.
There are still some issues for VARs with SaaS, namely where exactly to make their money. However, the news provider reports that more VARs have begun selling SaaS more actively, which is expected to result in a greater ability to fine tune their sales structure.
"Anyone who is in the VAR channel today … if they are not looking at cloud, managed services, software-as-a-service as an integral part of their business, they will be left behind," Dennis Mueller, vice president of technical services at a VAR, told the news provider.
The success of SaaS is a large factor behind the overall growth of cloud computing. According to market analysis firm Forrester Research, the cloud market is expected to grow to more than $240 million by 2020.
