A solid majority of companies that have adopted cloud computing systems don't have a concrete methodology in place to measure their ROI from the technology, according to a survey released Monday by the Open Group.

Chris Harding, the Open Group's forum director, said in a statement accompanying the results that the data emphasizes the technological novelty of cloud computing for the enterprise sector.

"The ability to transform business is the most exciting feature of the cloud phenomenon. The survey shows that users recognize that cloud computing will impact their business processes, but that they are not yet prepared to handle that impact or, in many cases, even to measure it," he stated.

Harding added that the group would continue to investigate the effects - both real and perceived - of the new frameworks on enterprise IT.
It's widely agreed that cloud security is one of the most important considerations for companies moving to the new model, but a recent survey suggests that many public cloud service providers don't prioritize it highly enough.
