The Cloud Security Alliance announced this week that financial services giant PricewaterhouseCoopers has joined the group, providing support and insight on compliance and other issues.

PwC risk assurance partner Cara Beston said in a statement that the company brings a great deal of experience with cloud security and operations to the organization.

"Given our extensive experience working with cloud users and technology providers on sensitive and complex issues around the cloud, like compliance and control issues around, security, availability, privacy and regulatory oversight, we help companies benefit from cloud technologies in a controlled environment," she said.

PwC also stated that it would work to promote research into best practices for cloud security and help other companies decide if the cloud is right for them.

For its part, the CSA expressed excitement at PwC's inclusion, and said that the company would host the initial meeting of the group's New York Metro chapter at its offices later this month.

Advisory firms like PwC that use the cloud for their own operations are likely to be able to provide better guidance for clients based on their own experience, experts say.
