India's smaller businesses, the country's National Association of Software and Service Companies announced, should make a concerted effort to embrace cloud computing as a cost-efficient way forward, according to the Press Trust of India.
India's status as one of the global leaders in IT services makes moving into the cloud a necessity, PTI reported NASSCOM president Som Mittal as saying at a recent convention.
"There are opportunities, especially for small- and medium-size companies, to develop products in sectors like cloud computing, mobile applications and Software-as-a-Service," he said.
Mittal, according to PTI, said India should look to create new product companies as well as extend its already significant advantages in support services. Another speaker at the event, MindTree CEO Krishnakumar Natarajan, asserted that the total value of demand for IT outsourcing will reach $1.7 trillion in the next eight years.
Powerful emerging economies like India's will be another important target market for cloud computing, experts say, though adoption rates are still likely to trail developed countries like the U.S. for some time.
