Roughly nine in 10 U.S. businesses had to deal with a serious IT security breach over the course of the past year, the Ponemon Institute announced this week.
The group's survey of American IT security specialists found that one key to the problem may be insufficient mobile device protection. Almost two-thirds (63 percent) of the incidents described in the report centered on either laptop PCs or mobile devices as the weak link.
About one in 10 respondents said that they had positively identified the source of all major IT security breaches at their organization, the researchers said, an indication that the sophistication of digital attacks is starting to badly outstrip the average IT professional's ability to defend against them.
