A new study from IT news provider InformationWeek found a growing number of companies plan to rely on public cloud computing solutions to improve their backup and data recovery needs.
In a survey of more than 360 IT decision-makers, 25 percent of respondents indicated they are currently using public storage services or plan to do so within the next two years.
More than three-fourths of respondents cited backup as the primary reason for deploying cloud-based storage services, while 70 percent cited disaster recovery and business continuity. These applications were followed by file archiving, email archiving, and primary data storage.
