In addition to the cost savings and IT flexibility provided by the cloud, a new study from Portfolio.com found many small- and medium-sized businesses are using the technology to go mobile.
With soaring gas prices once again becoming a concern, the option of saving a little at the tank by working from home is sure to be a welcomed one for many employees. With the advent of new technologies, such as the cloud and advanced mobile devices, it is now more possible than ever to stay productive while away from the office.
According to Portfolio's report, 71 percent of surveyed SMBs indicated they investing in wireless technology to increase their mobile business. Additionally, 43 percent of mobile professionals said they were aware of the cloud and its capacity add workplace flexibility.
With the growth of mobile technology, however, businesses must be sure they are taking steps to protect their corporate data to ensure it isn't exposed while an employee is at home or on the road. According to a recent Radicati study, this will lead to an increase in cloud security spending, which is expected to reach $2.1 billion by 2015.
