Many experts believe government and industry regulations consistently trail the pace of technological advancements. While new innovations, such as cloud computing, continue to gain in popularity and complexity, businesses and organizations are tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance and meeting new needs that governing entities have not caught yet.

InfoWorld recently published an article assessing the importance of meeting regulatory compliance when transitioning IT departments to the cloud. According to the website, organizations should be persistent in their search for a cloud provider. Finding the right provider and working with them to create a custom system the organization can benefit from will take care of many of the compliance requirements, the website reports.

Through a proper assessment of the prospective provider of cloud services and the impact the change will have on the organization's IT department, the transition process will be safer and smoother, the website asserts. The website notes that a constant eye on the ever-changing cloud industry, as well as much thought put into security, is imperative for an effective, compliant transition.

A plethora of organizations have already switched, or are considering changing to cloud IT. According to the International Data Corporation, cloud computing is expected to grow from $3.8 billion and 600,000 units in 2010 to $6.4 billion and 1.3 million units in 2014.
