It would be a hard-pressed task to find an information technology summit, forum or conference that does not mention cloud computing, as the cloud industry has already experienced explosive growth since the inception of the technology.
This week, the 34th annual National Association of State Technology Directors conference took place in Omaha, Nebraska, the Omaha World-Herald reports. 250 IT professionals representing more than 30 states gathered to discuss the trending technology of the past year, while many in attendance expressed excitement for the joint effort of competitors to improve IT practices, the source adds.
"Together, the states are like laboratories," Mark McCord, director of the NASTD, said at the conference, according to the news provider. "The goal here to to get our members together to share information from each other and thought leaders. We're all here to learn."
Chief information officer of the conference's host-state explained how Nebraska was a good choice for this year's conference, as the state recently implemented digital health information exchanges and a new email system, the source adds.
Cloud computing is expected to continue to rise in popularity, as the International Data Corporation projects the industry to grow from 600,000 units in 2010, to 1.3 million by 2014.
