One of the most widely viewed benefits of cloud computing has proved to be the way in which the technology helps businesses streamline IT operations, reducing costs and removing many of the day-to-day problems from internal IT departments. Hostway recently published an article explaining that the cloud can remove the headaches associated with technology common to many modern businesses.
According to the source, external hosting through cloud services lowers the general costs associated with many of the hardware and software needs of businesses, especially when it comes to maintenance, repair and replacement costs of expensive hardware. The U.K. vice chairman of EuroCloud, Phil Wainewright, told the news provider that the technology can improve productivity, security and ease common problems.
"Because the application is already up and running, the provider takes care of making sure that it keeps running and actually keeps upgrading it with extra functionality over time," Wainewright explained to the source. "It's less likely for the servers to get burgled [with unified communications], they're less exposed to people just being able to get access to them and download material."
In regard to cost efficiency, the U.S. General Services Administration announced it would move its email services to the cloud - a move it expects will save the government $15 million over the next five years.
