As more businesses and federal agencies begin to experience the benefits of cloud computing, the technology continues to spread into different industries and lifestyles. The Guardian recently reported that cloud computing has successfully moved many of the traditional enterprise-related functions, such as data hosting, to inside consumers' homes and pockets.
According to the source, the cloud boasts opportunities for many retailers, manufacturers and more, and has even begun to change the music industry. Now, cloud hosting can provide music lovers with an opportunity to bring more music more places than could have ever been imagined 20 years ago.
The news provider cited a quote from the late Steve Jobs, who recently explained that "we are demoting the PC and Mac to just be a device, and moving the digital hub center of your digital life to the cloud." Additionally, the source notes that Gartner projects the cloud to account for more than half of enterprise email systems by 2020.
According to the International Data Corporation, the cloud is projected to grow from a $5.2 billion, 885,000 unit industry in 2011 to $9.4 billion and more than 1.8 million units in 2015.
