Much of the news surrounding cloud computing through the past few months has regarded the rapidly growing adoption rates in big business industries, including healthcare and law, as well as in the federal government. However, Small Business Trends reports that small businesses are increasingly turning to the new technology and boasting much success after deployment.

The source lists several reasons for the cloud computing explosion among small businesses, the prevailing being the capabilities of the cloud for remote storage and sharing. These two factors are widely viewed as the most popular reason for cloud deployment, especially when considering Software-as-a-Service platforms, including cloud-based email, have been the fastest growing services.

The obvious reasons for its success among small businesses, as many analysts have cited, are scalability and cost -fficiency. Not having to maintain and purchase expensive servers and hardware, and instead renting it on an as-needed-basis, could potentially make the difference between a small business' success and failure.

Additionally, experts have long asserted the worth of the cloud can be seen in its fostering of transparency and, more recently, its ability to improve security. Though security concerns have been the long-standing impediments to the technology's widespread adoption, more IT personnel and executives are gaining a greater understanding of the services, leading to more successful security practices.
