As parents it is our job to protect our kids both online and offline. So ensuring you have a full understanding of what your kids are doing and saying online is imperative.<\/p>\n
Common Slangs<\/h2>\n
It is no secret that kids are using a complex series of acronyms to communicate with each other online. So, in the interests of fostering a greater understanding (and ensuring you have a bit of \u2018tech cred\u2019), here is a list of the most commonly used slang and its meaning:<\/p>\n
LOL \u2013 Laugh Out Loud (not<\/b> lots of love)<\/p>\n
POTS \u2013 Parents Over Shoulder<\/p>\n
CD9 \u2013 Code 9 which means parents are about<\/p>\n
KPC \u2013 Keeping Parents Clueless<\/p>\n
PAW \u2013 Parents Are Watching<\/p>\n
POP \u2013 Parents On Prowl<\/p>\n
ROFL \u2013 Rolling On The Floor Laughing<\/p>\n
1,2,3,4,5 \u2013 Typing the numerals 1 to 5 means parent are reading the screen<\/p>\n
NMU \u2013 Not Much, You?<\/p>\n

Has anyone noticed a theme? Yes \u2013 lots of effort goes into ensuring that \u2018us parents\u2019 are not able to view our teens\u2019 online activity!\u00a0 In a recent study entitled The Secret Life of Teens by McAfee it was shown that 67% of Australian teens aged 13-19 said their parents do not know everything they do online.<\/p>\n
