\u201cOutages like this create uncertainty, and scammers move fast to take advantage of it,\u201d said Steve Grobman, McAfee\u2019s Chief Technology Officer. \u201cWhen people can\u2019t get into email or the tools they use every day, it\u2019s easy to assume something is wrong with your account \u2014 and that\u2019s exactly the moment attackers look for.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cFake alerts start circulating that look like they\u2019re coming from the real company, with logos and urgent language telling you to reset a password or verify your information,\u201d Grobman added. \u201cSome push fake support numbers or messages claiming they can restore access. If you\u2019re impacted, slow down, go straight to the official source for updates, and don\u2019t share passwords, verification codes, or payment details in response to an unexpected message.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cTools that can spot suspicious links and fake login pages help reduce risk \u2014 especially when people are trying to get back online quickly,\u201d Grobman said.<\/i><\/p>\n
