As Harry Styles concert tickets go on sale for his first tour in years, cybersecurity experts warn that the same excitement driving ticket registrations and social chatter will also drive a spike in ticket scams across social media, email, and text messages.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen demand spikes around a major tour, ticket scams spike too,\u201d said Abhishek Karnik, Head of Threat Research at McAfee. \u201cWe saw this during recent major ticket releases, including the Oasis reunion, when\u00a0<\/span><\/i>McAfee Labs identified<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0more than 2,000 suspicious ticket listings online.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cScammers take advantage of the urgency fans already feel, and the fear of missing out, inserting themselves into social posts, DMs, and text threads with offers that sound normal and believable,\u201d Karnik added. <\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cAvoid interacting with unknown sellers, especially when offers are made over social media,\u201d Karnik said. \u201cPayments made via wire transfers, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or peer-to-peer platforms like Venmo or Zelle are often not recoverable, which is why it\u2019s safer to buy directly from official ticketing sites or well known resale platforms.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

American Express access\u00a0presale ticket sales\u00a0are already live, and Ticketmaster is the primary platform handling official\u00a0sales.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rest of the\u00a0Together,\u00a0Together\u00a0<\/i>tour tickets will be released in two stages:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    McAfee\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>State of the\u00a0Scamiverse<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0survey of 7,500 consumers found people now receive\u00a0<\/span>14\u00a0scam\u00a0messages per day<\/span><\/b>\u00a0on\u00a0average, and\u00a0spend a\u00a0<\/span>\u201ctime tax\u201d of 114 hours a year<\/span><\/b>\u00a0sorting real from fake. In that environment, criminals\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0need you to be careless. They just need you to be busy. And major ticket drops create the perfect opening: high demand, fast-moving queues, and price shock that makes a \u201cgood deal\u201d feel like something you\u00a0have to\u00a0grab\u00a0immediately.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What\u2019s\u00a0changed is that\u00a0scams\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0even need a link anymore. The report found\u00a0<\/span>more than 1 in 4 people (26%)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0say suspicious social messages now arrive\u00a0<\/span>without a URL<\/span><\/b>, and\u00a0<\/span>44%<\/span><\/b>\u00a0admit they reply to those\u00a0linkless\u00a0DMs anyway, often triggering the next step of the\u00a0scam.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0the blueprint behind many ticket\u00a0scams\u00a0today: a believable message, a quick pivot to payment, and pressure to move fast before you can verify.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
