It\u2019s delivered digitally in an environment that is often anonymous. It\u2019s a far-reaching, esteem-shattering, emotional assault. And the most traumatic component? The perpetual nature of the internet adds the ever-present threat of unlimited accessibility\u2014kids know bullying can happen to anyone, at any time, and spread like wildfire.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcafee.com\/blogs\/family-safety\/is-your-child-being-cyberbullied-what-parents-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">nature of cyberbullying<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> can make a young victim feel hopeless and powerless. Skipping school doesn\u2019t stop it. Summer vacation doesn\u2019t diminish it. That\u2019s because the internet is ever-present.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ditchthelabel.org\/research-papers\/the-annual-bullying-survey-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">2020 Ditch the Label Cyberbullying Study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, youth today reveal that carrying the emotional weight of being &#8220;connected all the time&#8221; is anything but fun and games. Those most likely to receive a threatening or aggressive text, IM, or email: Girls ages 15-17.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">More data from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yrbs-explorer.services.cdc.gov\/#\/graphs?questionCode=H24&amp;topicCode=C01&amp;location=XX&amp;year=2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">CDC<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.american.edu\/media\/news\/03282019-mental-health-and-black-lgb-youth.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">American University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> reveals that more than 28.1 % of LGBTQ teens were cyberbullied in 2019, compared to 14.1% of their heterosexual peers. In addition, Black LGTBQ youth are more likely to face mental health issues linked to cyberbullying and other forms of bullying as compared to non-Black LGTBQ and heterosexual youth.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Another community that can experience high cyberbullying is gamers.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">If your child spends a lot of time playing online games, consider paying close attention to the tone of conversations, the language used, your child\u2019s demeanor during and after gaming, and, as always, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcafee.com\/blogs\/internet-security\/gaming-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">stay aware of the risks<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.
