We\u2019re all busy and often conduct our lives on the fly \u2013 so it\u2019s very easy to do.<\/p>\n<p>Creating a mirror Facebook profile or cloning is a very clever trick used by hackers to infiltrate our lives and steal our personal information. Hackers simply copy the information and photographs you have displayed publicly on your account and then used to create a new profile with your name.<\/p>\n<p>Their aim is then to get your friends to add them. As your profile pic looks the same, your time poor and believing friends think it\u2019s you and accept.<\/p>\n<h2 data-fontsize=\"22\" data-lineheight=\"25\">So What\u2019s Their End Game?<\/h2>\n<p>In short, it\u2019s not friendship! There are several reasons they could be cloning you and none of them pretty:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"blue\"><strong>Collecting Personal Information<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This is probably their biggest focus. Many people \u2018overshare\u2019 on Facebook with details of their kids, families, work and home easily available. Many also have email addresses and telephone numbers displayed on their page. Once the hackers are \u2018friends\u2019 with your oversharing friends \u2013 it is very easy for them to get tips from your friends\u2019 Facebook pages for passwords etc with the aim of accessing back accounts.<\/p>\n<p>They can also start conversations on Messenger and glean further personal and financial information. And once they have accessed enough information, they can apply for a loan, sign up for a mobile phone contract\u2026the possibilities are endless.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li class=\"blue\"><strong>Request for Money<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Sending \u2018heartwrenching\u2019 stories of financial stress caused by life threatening medical conditions is another tactic used by hackers. And \u2018your friends\u2019 may just in fact open their hearts and wallets to the hackers. Beware!<\/p>\n<h2 data-fontsize=\"22\" data-lineheight=\"25\"><strong>What To Do To Stay Safe?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You may have seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.net\/viral-facebook-post-warns-about-facebook-cloning-warning-is-valid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">warnings doing the rounds on Facebook recently<\/a>. Of course feel free to share the status if you think it will help however vigilance and NOT oversharing is key here. However this is easier said than done \u2013 recent research shows we are prolific oversharers.<\/p>\n<p>And please ensure your Facebook privacy settings are up to date and tight! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.business2community.com\/facebook\/adjust-facebook-privacy-settings-01538227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here\u2019s a good tutorial that should get you on track.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But if you find your profile has been cloned then you should report the fake account to Facebook. Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the profile of the fake account.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the cover photo and select Report.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the on-screen instructions to file a report.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>So, if you have a spare 5 minutes, check out your friend list and ensure you don\u2019t have any double ups.
