A word or abbreviation can add significant meaning or emotion to a message or text. Slang helps kids define their connections, feel accepted, and gain independence. And of course, there&#8217;s the bonus of slang which is keeping parents in the dark. Every piece of that logic is reasonable for the most part, so we should be hands-off <em>but aware<\/em> in allowing this rite of passage. Opioids are prescription painkillers sold on the street. If you find or overhear your kids using these terms, address it immediately. A few nicknames, slang terms include:<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Demmies:<\/strong> Demerol<\/h2>\n<p><strong>O, Oxy, kickers, OC, kickers, blues:<\/strong>\u00a0Oxycontin<br \/>\n<strong>Captain Cody, Cody, schoolboy:\u00a0<\/strong>Codeine with Robitussin or Tylenol<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\"><strong>Percs:<\/strong> Percocet\/Percodan<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Doors &amp; fours, pancakes and syrup: <\/strong>Codeine with glutethimide<br \/>\n<strong>Vikes, lorries, Watsons, 357s: <\/strong>Vicodin or Lorcet\/Lortab<br \/>\n<strong>Pink O, stop signs, pink:<\/strong>\u00a0Opana (oxymorphone)\u00a0<strong><br \/>\nFentanyl:<\/strong> China girl, China town, tango and cash<br \/>\n<strong>Rids, ritties, s<\/strong><strong>kippy, skittles, study buddies:<\/strong> Ritalin<br \/>\n<strong>Black beauties, truck drivers, wakeups:<\/strong> Adderall<\/p>\n<p>While these lists could go on for days, we&#8217;ve collected the ones we&#8217;ve noticed the most. Familiarize yourself with these words and abbreviations, pay attention to what your kids are talking about, who their friends are and whether or not they are using technology is amplifying positive conversations or dangerous ones. As always, make your relationship and open communication with your tween or teen a priority.
